Privacy policy – Food Smart

This policy explains how the Food Smart app collects and uses personal data, in accordance with EU Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR).

1. Data we collect

• Account: email, nickname (the only name shown publicly as the author of your recipes) and password, stored only as a bcrypt hash and never in plain text. With Sign in with Google or Apple: the account identifier and, if provided, name and profile photo (never shown publicly). Your email is never visible to other users.
• Location: coordinates and city, only while you use the app and with your consent, stored on our server to show nearby stores and distances. No background tracking.
• Content: recipes and photos you publish (camera or gallery, only with consent).
• Usage data: favourites, shopping list, ingredients viewed, language preference.
• Advertising (Android): Google AdMob may use the device advertising ID, according to the consent you give in the privacy form shown at launch.

2. Purposes

To provide the app features (recipes, ingredient cards, nearby stores, price estimates, shopping list, Italian/English recipe translation), manage your account and password recovery, show ads and keep the service secure.

3. Third-party services

• Google: Google sign-in, AdMob (ads), Places API (receives coordinates to find real nearby stores).
• Apple: Sign in with Apple.
• Artificial intelligence (Google Gemini via Emergent): receives ingredient names, city/coordinates, shopping list and the text of published recipes to generate ingredient cards, price estimates and automatic translations.
• OpenStreetMap Nominatim: city search.
• Emergent: hosting, database, photo storage, email delivery (password reset codes).
• RevenueCat (subscription management): the component is included in the app but is not active and receives no data until Premium subscriptions become available. At that point it will receive your user identifier and purchase data, and this policy will be updated before activation.

These providers process data only to deliver the service to the app. Advertising data is shared with Google AdMob according to your consent. We do not use our own analytics or crash-reporting tools.

Prices shown are AI estimates, not real offers. Nutrition and health information is AI-generated for general guidance and does not replace medical advice. We do not sell your data. All communications are encrypted (HTTPS).

4. Retention and deletion

Data is kept while your account is active. Deleting your account erases your profile, published recipes, the content of your photo files, favourites, shopping list and sessions. You can delete your account and all related data in the app (Profile → Delete account) or on the web: account deletion page.

5. Your rights

You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, port and object to processing, and to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.

6. Children

Kids' recipes are intended for parents. The app is not directed at children under 14.
